Millennium Awards Honorees 2012

Global Green USA

At our Millennium Awards each year, we honor those who embody the Global Green mission of "fostering a global value shift toward a sustainable and secure world." The Awards were established in 1996 to herald individuals and organizations who recognize the important connection between humankind and nature, to celebrate their success and inspire others to make such exceptional behavior the norm. The honorees for Global Green's 2012 Millennium Awards, presented June 2 in Los Angeles, are:

Mike Sullivan, LAcarGUY -
Community Environmental Leadership Award

This honor recognizes Mike’s personal commitment to supporting many important local environmental organizations and for actively promoting community projects, from cleaning beaches to creating school gardens. When Global Green needed hybrid cars for our Red Carpet-Green Car campaign of transporting stars to the Oscars in fuel-efficient cars, Mike provided them.

Mike Sullivan is President/Owner of the LAcarGUY family of dealerships. Mike’s brand has been a leader in the Los Angeles automotive industry since 1964, with 11 award-winning dealerships and two state-of-the-art body shops. Furthermore, Mike and LAcarGUY sell more hybrids and clean diesel cars than any other dealership group in America and also showcase energy- and resource-conserving practices in its dealerships, including the new Audi LEED-certified dealership.

The LA Green Team represents the company’s commitment to advancing sustainability by encouraging, inspiring, and educating its 800+ employees about reducing their carbon footprints -- individual and corporate -- as well as selling more hybrids and clean diesel cars than any other dealership group in the United States.

Alice Bamford and Lady Bamford, Daylesford Organic Farm -
International Environmental Leadership Award

This honor recognizes the commitment of Alice Bamford and Lady Bamford (pictured) to provide completely sustainable food choices that are healthy for the planet and its people through the Daylesford Organic Farm in Gloucestershire, the Bamford Body Collection, and One Gun Ranch in Malibu. We applaud their commitment to raise public awareness about the origin of the food we eat and how it is produced through the Daylesford Foundation. This link between the health of the planet and our food is an essential lesson for people all around the world.

Daylesford is committed to producing seasonal farm produce in an eco-friendly environment. There are three stand-alone farmshops with cafes in Gloucestershire, Pimlico Road, and Notting Hill. Summer 2012 will see Daylesford’s first pop-up café on the roof of the world-renowned department store Selfridges & Co in London.

Ed and Cathy O'Neill -
Entertainment Environmental Leadership Award

This honor recognizes Ed and Cathy O'Neill's deep and passionate commitment to advancing and promoting environmental initiatives that help children, families, and communities throughout the Los Angeles region. Specifically, we recognize their efforts to promote local organic farms, including the preservation of the Topanga Skyline Farm, and to spearhead the greening of the Westside Waldorf Elementary School. They effectively use their media savvy and high-profile visibility to promote the importance and value of living sustainably -- and by supporting organizations such as LANE and Global Green USA.

Ed O'Neill is an actor best known for his role as Al Bundy on the long-running sitcom "Married... with Children" and most recently for his role of Jay in ABC’s hit series, "Modern Family." Cathy O'Neill was born in Hackensack, New Jersey, and moved to New York City as a dancer and actor. It was there that she first met her husband. She appeared on television and in the theater and then began work as a volunteer with various theater companies in New York and Los Angeles.

Cathy and Ed are raising two daughters, Sophia and Claire. Cathy is a Prayer Practitioner with Agape International Spiritual Center; is on the Board of Trustees of the Westside Waldorf School, where she is also the head of the Green Team and the Diversity Committee; and is on the advisory boards of LAANE, Global Green, and Antioch University's Master of Arts in Education Program.

In his role, John makes the link between the health of the planet and the health of its inhabitants and works to guarantee that Seventh Generation products are sustainable through and through, from sourcing the ingredients to making decisions on the manufacturing process and packaging choices.
