Local Love: Organic Produce in the Spotlight

Millennium Awards centerpieceWhen Jamie Lee Curtis took the stage at the 15th Annual Global Green Millennium Awards to introduce honoree Ed Begley, Jr., she was toting vegetables from her table’s centerpiece--an artichoke in one hand and an eggplant in the other--and joked about going home to “make a nice soup” with them. The centerpieces were provided by Big Red Sun, a Venice landscape and design firm located a mile from our Global Green offices in Santa Monica, and made with succulents and locally-grown organic vegetables from a CSA. We were already proud of the arrangements, but it’s especially nice to hear a ringing endorsement from a guest with a microphone. And while there’s a lot to be said for a lovely flower arrangement, it was great to see exiting guests stuffing bags and pockets with produce. (Editor’s note: I made myself a steamed artichoke with lemon for lunch the next day.)
