Capitol Hill Forum: No Nuclear Testing

There was a packed house on Capitol Hill today for our Global Green USA event, "Two Decades Without Nuclear Weapons Testing," in celebration of United Nations International Day Against Nuclear Tests and the 20th anniversary of the closure of the Soviet Semipalatinsk nuclear site in Kazakhstan. At the forum, we celebrated these historic events and discussed the current state of nuclear testing, along with the prospects for entry into force of the Comprehensive Test Ban Treaty. We heard great support for the ban. Among those in attendance: Assistant Secretary of State Rose Gottemoeller, Kazakh Ambassador Erlan Idrissov, Congressman Edward J. Markey, Congressman Jim P. McGovern, and Arms Control Association Executive Director Daryl Kimball.
