The site of the future Holy Cross Project Community Center in the Lower Ninth Ward in New Orleans has been put to good use in serving the Holy Cross neighborhood -- even before construction begins.
For the past two weeks, Historic Green used the future site of the Global Green Holy Cross Project Community Center as a base camp for its Spring Greening event. Students and volunteers from around the country have come to help weatherize homes in the Lower Ninth Ward in an effort to lower utility bills for the homeowners and make New Orleans more energy-efficient. Volunteers have congregated on the corner of Douglass and Andry streets -- at our Holy Cross Project site -- to receive work plans, meet for lunch, and pick up tools. Many have toured the Holy Cross Visitor Center as well. More photos and updates on Historic Green's Facebook page.
