News Note: San Onofre Power Plant

The Orange County plant has been prohibited from restarting following the recent breakdown of the large steam generators, and the release of radioactive steam from its two remaining nuclear reactors. A thorough, public, and transparent review of its safety has been ordered for the 8.4 million Californians within a 50-mile radius.

It is a serious situation and one that reminds us that our country should now be investing in clean, safe, sustainable, and renewable energy sources -- solar, wind, hydro, geothermal -- that do not risk the proliferation of dangerous radioactive materials.
