Field Report: Sustainable Packaging Symposium

veggies_in_boxAnnie White, director of our Coalition for Resource Recovery (CoRR) program in New York, was on a panel today at the Sustainable Packaging Symposium in Houston. For the "Post-Use Optimization: Resource Recovery as a Key Component of Packaging Sustainability" panel, she addressed with her presentation:

  • New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg's announcement to double waste diversion in five years and the implications for packaging in New York City -- and nationally
  • CoRR's work on foodservice packaging and recycling for prepared food sold in grocery stores (ice cream and frozen prepared food packaging products)
  • CoRR's work to replace non-recyclable wax coated wholesale boxes with recyclable alternatives and the role of grocers in facilitating this transition -- to help reduce the 1.45 million tons of waxed boxes that are discarded in the U.S. each year
  • The cardboard box game-changer: recyclable coatings for these packaging types
  • Our upcoming wholesale event in California (more details soon!)
