Green and Ivory: Piano Auction

auction_piano1We are auctioning off a one-of-a-kind Baldwin Baby Grand piano on Charity Buzz, with proceeds to benefit our green projects and initiatives. The piano itself is green -- the color green (and also made from wood that has been sustainably harvested.) The piano was donated to us shortly after we began work to rebuild New Orleans green and it has deep ties to the jazz community there. Legendary musician and New Orleans native Fats Domino autographed the piano -- and also serenaded the crowd at an event with one of his classic hits, "Ain't That a Shame."

Others who have signed the piano: Dr. John, Mike Melvoin, Arthur Hamilton, Ray Brown, Jr., James Moody, Melba Moore, Sophie B. Hawkins, Dave Somerville, Paul Williams, Maria Muldaur, David "Fathead" Newman, Terry Gibbs, Freda Payne, Dr. Lonnie Smith, Kim Hoyer, and Sally Kellerman. Since the piano has been donated to us, it has also been used in the recording of "Friends and Family" by Ray Brown, Jr. and Friends and been played in a few venues where it has been housed since it was give to us. In fact, while the piano was temporarily housed in the ballroom of a Los Angeles hotel, it was reportedly played by Clint Eastwood and Steven Spielberg. Auction ends July 12.
