Recycling Report: DC Roundtable

corr_matt_dc_roundtable This past Friday, I testified before the District of Columbia City Council Committee on the Environment, Public Works, and Transportation during a public oversight roundtable about waste and recycling issues in the District of Columbia. Groups testifying presented both ideas for local resource recovery initiatives as well as national case studies, and included the Sierra Club, Alice Fergusson Foundation, and the Institute for Local Self Reliance.

Two local initiatives were covered: Alvin Bethea of Optimistic Environmental Health Network discussed work to bring recycling to the DC housing projects, and Poonam Sandhu of Waste Division DC talked about a program that would require recycling at outdoor events in DC.

We were there to represent Global Green and our DC Environmental Network and my testimony described our Coalition for Resource Recovery (CoRR) work to create widespread innovation in recovering commonly wasted materials, including the coffee cup, the wholesale produce box, and food waste.
