In the News: Studying Health Risks of Nuke Plants

Our reaction to the news that the Nuclear Regulatory Commission is reassessing cancer risks around the 104 operating nuclear power plants in the U.S.? It's about time. Given that the last assessment was in 1990 -- more than 20 years ago -- and the higher cancer rates we've seen now from the epidemiological studies on the 1986 Chernobyl meltdown, we need to better understand the cumulative effects of low-level radiation on surrounding populations.
