Hurricane Katrina anniversary: Ways to help with on-going rebuilding efforts

In honor of Hurricane Katrina's fifth-year anniversary this Sunday, we'll be sharing several "hero" stories here in Kindness next week. Be sure to share yours!
We wanted to additionally highlight several ways you can still get engaged and help out with rebuilding efforts that continue today.
1. Join Rebuilding Together, the nation's leading nonprofit working to preserve affordable homeownership, and their "Fifty for Five" campaign to rebuild in the Gulf area.
To mark the conclusion of this massive rebuilding project, Rebuilding Together is hosting two community celebrations on August 28.
WHEN: Noon, Saturday, August 28, 2010
WHERE: Ribbon Cutting/Media Conference at Hope Park, Gentilly; Community celebration will immediately follow.
2.Support California-based Global Green USA's efforts to build five sustainable homes, an 18-unit apartment complex and a community center in the Holy Cross section of the Lower 9th Ward.
3. Support Make It Right's efforts to build 150 eco-friendly homes planned for the Lower 9th Ward. The initiative started by actor Brad Pitt. So far, 34 homes have been built.
4. Support Actor Wendell Pierce's efforts to build more than 150 elevated, energy-efficient homes are being planned for the Pontchartrain Park area.Pierce, a New Orleans native, is best known for his role in HBO series The Wire and Treme.
