Global Green in New York
Global Green has just opened it's first office in New York and is excited to be an active part of the community. This office will function as the homebase for the New York Coalition for Resource Recovery, a project that is addressing the non-recycled, exported waste flows from New York City's Five Borroughs, focusing specifically on solid waste diversion through sorted recovery, reclamation, and recycling.
Global Green also:
• Partnered with Habitat for Humanity NYC, with the support of the United Technologies Corporation,
to create a LEED certified 30 unit project in BedStuy, NYC.
• Successfully championed the inclusion of sustainable building and energy efficiency measures into
the New York State Division of Housing and Community Renewal’s (DHCR) Qualified Allocation Plan.
The DHCR is responsible for the supervision, maintenance and development of affordable low- and
moderate-income housing in New York State.
Events
Each year, Global Green hosts its annual Sustainable Design Awards in New York which recognize the tremendous advancements made in industry, building media, and public policy that move the world toward a more sustainable and secure future. Recent honorees have included: Discovery Communications, Russell Albanese, Elon Musk, Roland Emmerich, Enterprise, and the Heart Corporation.
The New York Committee
Global Green depends on the support and involvement of conscientious, progressive individuals to achieve its goals and to forward President Gorbachev’s vision of a safer, more sustainable planet. In response to this challenge, we have established the New York Committee. Now in its second decade, Global Green understands the urgent need for knowledgeable and dedicated leaders who are active in the environmental community.
Global Green requests the following commitments from New York Committee members:
• Give and/or raise $5,000 per year
• Serve on one event committee per year, help with event planning, recruitment and fundraising
• Help recruit additional committee members and spread Global Green’s message
An Associate level membership exists as well. Associate members of the New York Committee actively participate in regular Committee meetings, help organize events and network and fundraise for Global Green, but do not have the same financial obligations as regular Committee members.
