San Francisco Regional Committee
Global Green in the Bay Area & California
Enthusiasm for the environment, and for Global Green’s work in particular, in San Francisco and the Bay Area is extraordinary. Many of Global Green’s successes in green building, both in policy and in built examples, have come in the Bay Area. In 2002, Global Green received a large grant from the Packard Foundation to launch our Greater Bay Area Greening Affordable Housing Initiative which allowed us to be instrumental in influencing the state’s tax credit guidelines to include sustainable building criteria that financed $50 million worth of affordable
housing.
Global Green also:
• Advises the San Francisco Mayor’s Office on Housing on green building issues
• Authored the Alameda County Green Building Guidelines
• Provides technical assistance to non-profit housing developers with the support
of the San Francisco Foundation
Events

Each year Global Green, in conjunction with its San Francisco committee,, holds a Benefit Party entitled 'Gorgeous and Green.' In 2008, the event was held at San Francisco’s LEED certified Bently Reserve. The event focuses on green design solutions to combat climate change and other environmental issues. Proceeds from the evening benefit Global Green’s projects, including our Green Schools Initiative and the Holy Cross project,
the first sustainable low-income housing community in New Orleans’s Lower 9th Ward.
The San Francisco Committee
Global Green depends on the support and involvement of conscientious, progressive individuals to achieve its goals and to forward President Gorbachev’s vision of a safer, more sustainable planet. In response to this challenge, we have established the San Francisco Committee. As Global Green begins its second decade, we understand the urgent need for knowledgeable and dedicated leaders who are active in the environmental community.
Global Green requests the following commitments from San Francisco Committee members:
• Give and/or raise $5,000 per year
• Serve on one event committee per year, & help with event planning, recruitment and fundraising
• Help recruit additional committee members and spread Global Green’s message
As a member of the Committee, you will receive the following benefits:
• Name listing on associated webpages, invites, and other printed materials in association
with SF events
• Invitation to one Bay Area briefing or event per year
• Opportunity to be part of a dynamic international organization with affiliates in 29 countries.
