USGBC Municipal Green Building Conference Expo

Global Green will be participating in the USGBC Municipal Green Building Conference Expo. Each year, this event brings together Southland municipal policy makers and implementers along with leading architects and engineers to further the development of a sustainable and energy efficient future.

Breakout sessions will feature all aspects of sustainable design, construction, and operations practices for buildings and communities, including their impact on people, climate, the environment, and the economy. Green Urbanism Director Walker Wells and Senior Program Associate Ted Bardacke will be participating in the following sessions:

LEED and Green Point Rated Homes: Competitors or Colleagues

Build It Green, a California non-profit that administers the GreenPoint Rated residential home rating program and Davis Energy Group, the LEED for Homes Provider in California and Nevada, are working together to cooperatively delivery LEED for Homes and GreenPoint Rated. This session will describe the collaborative relationship between the two organizations and how it is accelerating the penetration of green building practices into the residential building industry in California. We will discuss local government incentives, the equivalency tool developed to cross-rate projects in both
programs, dual branding approaches, cross-training of raters, and case studies of projects that have participated in both programs.

From First Steps to Finish Line: Creating Successful Green Building Programs

This session will describe a step-by-step a guide to developing and implementing a municipal green building program. In an interactive format, participants will learn how green building programs can help local governments accommodate new development and building activity while still protecting the natural environment. Walker Wells will outline
a six-step process developed by Global Green USA through work with cities that include Santa Monica, Irvine, San Francisco, and Pasadena. Steps in the process include analysis of local trends, stakeholder outreach, developing a framework and guidelines that are appropriate to your locality, incentives, training and marketing. Participants will hear
local officials share their experiences and lessons learned in developing andimplementing local green building programs. Participants will be encouraged to share their own experiences.
