June 14, 2008 – Millennium Awards Wednesday, May 7 2008, 6:00 – 7:30 pm SCARRED LANDS & WOUNDED LIVES: The Environmental Footprint of War Come join Friends of the Earth and Global Green USA for a free showing of the very successful 60-minute documentary film, “Scarred Lands & Wounded Lives: The Environmental Footprint of War,” recently premiered at the DC Environmental Film Festival. The film is an investigation into the devastating environmental impacts of war. The producers will also be present for a short panel discussion after the movie. Thursday, May 8 2008, 9:30 – 11:30 am “Chemical Weapons Abolition: Lessons from The Hague and Iran” featuring Dr. Shahriar Khateri and Dr. Mohammadreza Soroush Drs. Khateri and Soroush have worked for more than two decades with survivors of chemical weapons attacks in Iran. Joining them will be two of those survivors to discuss the aftermath of ongoing conflicts that have left entire families injured and killed thousands of other Iranians. The Society for Chemical Weapons Victims Support (SCWVS) is dedicated to conducting awareness programs in order to increase public awareness on the consequences of war and the use of chemical weapons (and other weapons of mass destruction). Its activities communicate the importance of using diplomacy rather than war to broker peace and the necessity to abolish chemical, biological and nuclear weapons in the very near future. Physicians for Social Responsibility, founded in 1961, is guided by the values and expertise of medicine and public health.
