New Orleans Green Building Resource Center and Holy Cross Project Volunteers

The Global Green USA Green Building Resource Center and Office in New Orleans is accepting applicants for Spring/Summer 2013 on an ongoing basis for volunteer opportunities for students and individuals interested in gaining practical experience in green building, environmental research, public policy, and the legislative process. We offer opportunities for educating and assisting the public through green building advice and outreach to rebuilding citizens of the Gulf Coast. Interns participate in a variety of activities that support both organizational, individual and community development.

Possible Tasks:

  • Develop, research, write, and possibly publish a project on a topic developed according to the needs of the organization, intern’s own interests, as well as potential school requirements for academic credit.
  • Attend legislative strategy meetings.
  • Assist with organizational needs and foundation research.
  • Assist Director in planning and implementation of green redevelopment projects.
  • Assist with daily maintenance of Resource Center.
  • Assist with and attend community outreach events, government and neighborhood meetings.
  • Give green building advice to residents at NOLA Green Building Resource Center and outreach events.
  • Train and serve as informational guide at Global Green Visitors Center House in Holy Cross neighborhood of the Lower Ninth Ward New Orleans.
  • Door-to-door community outreach activities, to be determined.

Eligibility:

  • Must have a proven interest in green building, affordable housing, architecture, and/or related environmental issues.
  • Students at all levels are encouraged to apply.
  • As student, preferred 3.0 GPA or higher (on a 4.0 scale), or the equivalent if from a non-US institution.


Time Commitment: Preferred minimum two months, 10-15 hours weekly. Exact hours to be agreed upon by volunteer and Global Green/academic institution. 

Location: New Orleans Office and Green Building Resource Center (2705 S. Broad, New Orleans, LA); Holy Cross Project Visitor’s Center (409 Andry Street, New Orleans, LA).

Compensation: Academic credit is available. There is no monetary compensation, housing, stipend, parking or transportation provided by Global Green USA in relation to these positions. Please work out academic credit details with your academic institution.
