SENIOR POLICY ASSOCIATE
Global Green USA is seeking a dynamic, flexible individual to contribute to our Policy and Legislative Affairs Team either in Washington DC, or in Los Angeles. The Senior Policy and Legislative Program Associate will report directly to the Policy and Legislative Affairs Director and will assist in the management and implementation of local, state and federal policy initiatives and advocacy campaigns. The issue areas of responsibility may include Green Schools, Green Affordable Housing, Climate Change, and Renewable Energy work. The position will require frequent travel.
Responsibilities and specific tasks include:
- Working with Policy Director to develop and implement advocacy and outreach plan in all key campaign areas
- Managing coalitions to support campaign goals (organizing meetings/conference calls and initiating regular updates and outreach). Work with Policy and Communications Directors to utilize media opportunities
- Leading outreach efforts with key elected officials at the local, state and federal levels to educate them about key areas of interest to Global Green
- Providing substantive input to policy-related symposia, workshops and other events hosted by Global Green
- Leading or supporting research and policy analysis for Global Green policy reports, developing relationships with key policy experts to assist Global Green efforts
- Management of Policy interns
- Networking and attending various political and community functions, speaking at conferences and other events as needed
- Assisting with grant writing efforts
The successful candidate will have the following qualities, skills, and experience:
- 3-5 years minimum experience working directly on legislative initiatives for elected official
- A demonstrated ability to present complex information in an easy to understand manner to elected and appointed officials
- Successful track record in managing projects that involved a wide range of stakeholders
- Direct experience working for elected officials or doing advocacy at federal level essential
- Bachelor’s degree in political science, environmental studies, or other related field. Master’s degree in Public Policy or Environmental Policy a plus
- Experience working with public agencies on environmental/energy issues
- Ability to network effectively
- Familiarity with green building, and renewable energy
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Computer skills (word processing, spreadsheet, and presentation capabilities)
- Experience in writing press releases and communicating with the media
- Political or environmental campaign experience helpful
Compensation based on experience and qualifications. Salary range $50k-$65k. Position includes full benefits including 401k plan.
