The Los Angeles Times - Leo DiCaprio, Jessica Alba, James Cameron party pre-Oscars with Global Green

The annual Global Green pre-Oscar party got a streak of "Avatar" blue on Wednesday, as best director nominee James Cameron and a host of other environmentally conscious celebs turned out to celebrate at the Avalon Hollywood.

Longtime green guy Leonardo DiCaprio made a guys night of the bash -- which was full of vendors showcasing the latest in energy-conserving solutions --  rolling with pals Kevin Connolly and Lukas Haas.

Jessica Alba and her hubby Cash Warren made friends with Benji Madden and Joel Madden at Global Green USA’s 7th Annual Pre-Oscar Party last night. The young stars got close together to pose for a photo — perhaps Jessica and Cash just wanted to capture a shot with two of the big performers of the night!

Avatar director James Cameron has called for a mobilisation to tackle climate change, of a scale similar to that of World War II. He was speaking at Global Green USA's 7th Annual Pre-Oscar Party, which he attended with wife Suzi Amis in LA.

They were joined by tennis star Serena Williams and former Spice Girl Mel B at the bash in LA, plus Jessica Alba and Benji and Joel Madden from Good Charlotte.

Across the street from Capitol Records' tower, outside the Avalon Hollywood club, a line of green autos included the Tesla, Prius and luxury Audi A3 TDI from LA Car Guy, the biggest green car dealer in the US. GM also displayed its Chevy Volt as celebrity guests arrived in a variety of hybrids for Global Green's 7th annual Pre-Oscar bash last night, raising awareness for climate change solutions. Strolling down the lead-free green carpet, eco-minded stars shared stories, such as the set of Valentine's Day had solar powered trailers and no bottled water. Suzy Amis Cameron, wife of Avatar's director, unveiled her "green" Oscar gown, Leonardo DiCaprio snuck in and surprise guests took the stage for a jam session.

James Cameron has been blue with 'Avatar' the last several months, but on Wednesday night, he and his wife stepped out to promote living green. Along with other environmentally conscious stars, they attended the Global Green USA Pre-Oscar Party.

They will even be showcasing this lifestyle on the big red carpet at the Oscar Awards. James' wife Suzy partnered with Global Green to host a contest "to design Oscar-worthy gowns made out of sustainable fabrics." The proceeds go to a school that she started in Los Angeles.

No silkworms died in the making of Suzy Amis Cameron's Oscars dress, designed by a 21-year-old Michigan State University student with sustainability in mind.

The wife of "Avatar" director James Cameron unveils the silk dress Wednesday night, when she and her husband host a pre-Oscars party in Los Angeles.

While the dress will be displayed on a mannequin at that party, Amis Cameron plans to wear the creation to Sunday's Academy Awards. Her husband's movie has been nominated for nine Oscars at the 2010 awards.

It was a rainy green faux grass carpet for last night's seventh annual Global Green Pre-Oscars Party at Avalon in LA, which meant that many of the stars rushed in to keep from getting wet. Jessica Alba in a Viktor and Rolf dress and Cash Warren huddled close under their umbrella, only stopping to take a couple of photos while Joel and Benji Madden avoided the carpet almost entirely on their way into provide the evening's entertainment.

ABC7 - Hollywood 'goes green' for Oscars pre-party

Oscar gold was turning into Oscar green on Wednesday night when Global Green hosted their seventh annual pre-Oscar party, and over the years the event has grown quite a bit.

"We've raised over $300,000 tonight," said Matt Petersen, CEO of Global Green. "When we started this event, the first year we raised $10,000."

Global Green works to promote smart solutions to climate change by promoting healthy, green communities. The company had some of their solutions on display at the party including an eco-friendly toilet and a blue, yet 'green' gown that will be seen on Oscar's red carpet.
