GLOBAL GREEN USA CONGRATULATES HABITAT FOR HUMANITY INTERNATIONAL AND THE HOME DEPOT FOUNDATION FOR DRAMATICALLY EXPANDING THEIR COMMITMENT TO CREATE ENERGY EFFICIENT AFFORDABLE HOUSING

Investment by Home Depot Foundation and HFHI Helps Low-Income Families Save Money, Improve Health; Commitment Builds on National Environmental Partnership Global Green Launched with Habitat for Humanity in 1995

LOS ANGELES - August 6, 2009 – Global Green USA congratulated Habitat for Humanity International and The Home Depot Foundation for dramatically expanding their commitment to green affordable housing, one of the core initiatives of Global Green.

“Since first volunteering to green the 1995 Jimmy Carter Work Project, I’ve been dedicated to bringing healthy, green building practices to Habitat for Humanity’s incredible work so this is a very exciting announcement personally,” said Global Green President Matt Petersen. “Global Green’s partnership with Habitat for Humanity International in 1995 — their first national environmental partnership — started our organization on a journey to find ways to improve the lives of low income families and our global environment by beginning at home. That initial partnership was funded in part by The Home Depot Foundation and I’m so appreciative of their lasting commitment to invest in building green affordable housing.”

Global Green provides technical expertise and leadership to help green Habitat for Humanity home construction projects in Los Angeles, the Bay Area, New York City, the Gulf Coast, and throughout the country. This work has been made possible in part by the support of The Home Depot Foundation, United Technologies Corporation, and now in Northern California thanks to Pacific Gas & Electric. Global Green has also recently partnered with other non-profit housing developers to create some of the first net zero affordable housing projects including Solara and Los Vecinos. The Home Depot Foundation is the Lead Funding Partner for Global Green’s Holy Cross Project in New Orleans.

“Given today’s economic climate, it’s more important than ever to help families reduce high utility bills, improve healthy indoor air quality and demonstrate that green building can benefit everyone,” continued Petersen. “This level of commitment by both HFH and HDF is incredibly important for neighborhoods, families, and the environment.”
