GLOBAL GREEN CELEBRATES 11TH ANNUAL SUSTAINABLE DESIGN AWARDS IN NYC           

On December 6th, Global Green USA and more than 350 attendees celebrated the recipients of its Sustainable Design Awards. The event raised over $500,000 to support Global Green's initiatives in NYC and around the country. The honorees included Arianna Huffington, eBay, the Lincoln MKZ Hybrid, Wade Greene, Sophia Bush & Austin Nichols. GLOBAL GREEN HELPS WIN HISTORIC INCREASE FOR ENERGY EFFICIENCY IN BUILDINGS NATIONWIDE

Code officials from across the nation voted to increase energy efficiency standards in new buildings by 30%.   This historic vote represents the largest increase in building code efficiency since 1975.  The code is used in forty-seven states and the District of Columbia. “Global Green USA is thrilled that officials from around the country have voted in favor of energy efficiency, cost savings for homeowners, and a decrease in greenhouse gas emissions from the building sector,” said Mary Luevano, Policy and Legislative Director for Global Green. “This is a win for the American people.” Click HERE for the full press release.

BIGGEST & GREENEST HABITAT FOR HUMANITY DEVELOPMENT IN CALIFORNIA

Global Green recently celebrated the completion of the LEED for Neighborhood Development certified Edes Avenue project which includes 3 LEED Platinum and 3 LEED Gold townhomes that feature solar panels, energy-efficient building materials, passive solar design and other green features that reduce utility expenses and improve residents' health.  Global Green's collaboration with Habitat was made possible in part thanks to the philanthropic support of PG&E.  To read the case study, click HERE

GLOBAL GREEN LEADING THE NATION IN SUSTAINABLE NEIGHBORHOOD DEVELOPMENT 

Global Green has certified its third sustainable planning project through the new LEED for Neighborhood Development rating system, the most number of projects certified by any organization in the country through this system that combines smart growth, walkable urbanism and green building.  All three projects were certified through the pilot version of the LEED-ND rating system and are among the handful of projects that were certified across the country and the world, including the Olympic Villages in Beijing and Vancouver. SOLAR SCHOOLS FOR SOUTHLAND STUDENTS

On September 2nd,  Global Green USA and the Santa Monica-Malibu Unified School District celebrated the school board’s passage of the School District’s decision to adopt a plan for installing solar panels on nine elementary schools that will generate nearly two-thirds of all the power needs for the schools, save the district $2.8 million - $5.1 million dollars and reduce 24,000 tons of CO2 emissions over the next twenty-five years. GLOBAL GREEN HOSTS 6TH ANNUAL SAN FRANCISCO BENEFIT & ECOFASHION SHOW

Global Green USA celebrated their 6th Annual San Francisco Gorgeous & Green Benefit Party on Monday, December 13th at the LEED certified W Hotel.  Co-chaired by Zem Joaquin and Nadine Weil, the gala is one of the Bay Area's premier green lifestyle events. This event has done much for the perception of what it means to be sustainable without sacrificing style. The event benefits Global Green's initiatives nationally and in the Bay Area including its work to create green affordable housing and schools for low-income families. HOLY CROSS PROJECT GOING STRONG

Check out photos and our blog as the construction continues at our Holy Cross Project. This first sustainable village in the 9th ward, made possible with lead funding partner The Home Depot Foundation, features five completed single-family homes and construction on a community center will commence in 2011.

BUILD IT BACK GREEN NEW ORLEANS

Global Green's innovative Build it Back Green (BIBG) initiative continued to help thousands of residents learn how they can save money and improve their health through an energy efficiency outreach and education program that empowers New Orleanians to make their homes greener and save on their utility bills. To date, the program has reached over 20,000 residents, through over 200 community workshops and events, provided hundreds of one-on-one green building technical consultations, and conducted more than 100 customized on-site home energy consultations. For more information, click HERE.


PROP 23 VICTORY PARTY!!!

Global Green hosted the official Southern California victory party for NO ON PROP 23, which represented a major win over the Texas oil companies who spent millions to kill California’s clean energy and air pollution control standards. The event featured State Senator Fran Pavley, the author of California's historic global warming law. Take a look at PHOTOS from the party!


GLOBAL GREEN CONTRIBUTES TO PASSAGE OF UN SEA-DUMPED CHEMICAL MUNITIONS RESOLUTION
The United Nations passed a resolution calling for more cooperation to assess the environmental threats related to waste from chemical munitions dumped at sea.  Member States agreed to voluntarily exchange practical knowledge about the sites where chemical munitions were dumped at sea, to increase public awareness, and to seek the views of Member States on issues related to the environmental effects of the waste. GORBACHEV & NOBEL PEACE PRIZE WINNERS CALL FOR NUCLEAR ABOLITION

President Gorbachev chaired the annual meeting of Nobel Peace Prize winners held in Hiroshima on November 12-13th which issued a strong statement in support of nuclear abolition and ratification of the New START agreement by the US Senate (which just ratified the treaty) and Russian Duma.

 

6th ANNUAL QAP GREEN BUILDING RATING SUMMARY COMPLETE

For 2010, we are pleased to report a steady increase in the percentage of points attained across all of our ranking categories. Thirty-three states improved their scores this year. Connecticut and Georgia tied for the top position for the second consecutive year. The 2010 report also shows that the Top 15 most referenced green building strategies are reflected in nearly two-thirds of the state QAPs, a significant increase from 2009.  For the full report click HERE. 

GLOBAL GREEN LAUNCHES RECYCLING PARTNERSHIP

Global Green USA's Coalition for Resource Recycling (CoRR) continued to grow its corporate membership and pilot projects in 2010. Earlier this week, Global Green announced a partnership with Pret A Manger and launched a 3-store, eight week pilot in Manhattan to recycle its sandwich and salad boxes, soup containers, coffee cups, and bottles and cans.
