WHAT: Global Green USA’s 10th Annual Pre-Oscar® kicked off this years Oscar celebrations. Hollywood’s elite activists and green-minded celebrities enjoyed a night of eco-friendly entertainment, including a VIP cocktail reception, and Patron dinner & program – which included a special musical performance byWarner Bros. recording artist LP – followed by KCRW’s DJ Garth Trinidad, and culminated with a headline performance by seven-time Grammy Award winner Willie Nelson and his sons Lukas and Micah. DJ Shy (KIIS FM), also spun in the Volt Lounge throughout celebrity arrivals. Proceeds from the evening will benefit Global Green USA’s work to build greener, more resilient homes, schools, and communities in areas devastated by Hurricane Sandy.
This year’s featured automotive sponsor was the Chevy Volt electric vehicle, which chauffeured many of the attendees to the green carpet. The new Chevy Spark EV, which was just unveiled at the Los Angeles International Auto Show, was also on display. H&M, the world’s second largest fashion retailer, focusing on affordable fashion and sustainability, joined the event as the featured retail sponsor. “Conscious” is the name for all of the work the company does to offer a more sustainable fashion future. H&M is proud to have chosen Global Green USA to be the U.S. beneficiary and partner for the H&M global garment recycling program. Beginning Thursday February 21st 2013, customers will be able to hand in used garments in all 269 H&M stores in the US (and in all 48 H&M markets worldwide). Sustainability is an important part of H&M’s culture, and with this, the Swedish retailer strives to reduce the environmental impact of clothes throughout their lifecycle.
Other sponsors included Pureology, CoolHaus, Cade Estate Winery, Ehlers Estate, 360 Vodka, BlueAvocado and Turtle Island, the private island resort in Fiji and film location of the famous “Blue Lagoon” movie. Turtle Island offered a seven-day stay auction item in one of its luxurious villas (this world-renowned resort is powered largely by solar energy).
For the Patron Dinner, Chef Akasha Richmond of Akasha Restaurant in Culver City had custom-designed a farm-to-table menu from L.A.'s best farmer's markets. Collaborating on decor were landscape designer Durie Design and floral designer Celadon & Celery. Celadon and Celery’s string gardens were a symbol of the strength of New Yorkers, who always find balance in the face of adversity. All of the plants from the event were donated to Silver Lake Farms.
