GLOBAL GREEN USA APPLAUDS MABUS’ PLAN TO SUPPORT NON-PROFIT COMMUNITY IN THE GULF URGES FEDERAL GOVERNMENT TO GO FURTHER TO CREATE INDEPENDENT REGIONAL FOUNDATION

September 28, 2010 - New Orleans, LA - Global Green is encouraged at the report issued today by the Secretary of Navy Ray Mabus setting up a task force chaired by EPA Administrator Lisa Jackson and recommending that Congress establish a permanent Gulf Coast Recovery Council.

We are particularly pleased to see some of our ideas for creating an independent non-profit Gulf Coast Fund included in the report.  Since the catastropic spill began in April, Global Green has called for the creation of an independent $2.5 billion Gulf Coast Clean Energy and Healthy Communities Foundation to support the non-profit community to restore the Gulf and invest in the sustainable development of the region.

However, the recommendations do not go far enough - the Federal Government needs to have the regional foundation funded out of settlement dollars, making the foundation independent of private sector interests, in particular the oil industry.
