Internship in Washington, DC with Global Green USA’s Legacy Program

The Global Green USA Legacy Program in Washington DC offers full or part-time internships in the fall, spring, and/or summer for undergraduate or graduate students interested in gaining practical experience in international security, arms control and environmental research, public policy, and the legislative process. Interns participate in a variety of activities that support both organizational and individual development.

Duties:

  • Develop, research, write, and publish a project on a topic related to the environmentally sound destruction of chemical, biological, and nuclear weapons, G8 Global Partnership, relevant international treaties, or other topics of relevance to arms control and nonproliferation. Research topic will be developed according to the needs of the organization, intern’s own interests, as well as potential school requirements for academic credit.
  • Assist with media analyses and regular updates of the Green Cross / Global Green News Forum website.
  • Attend legislative strategy meetings.
  • Assist with organizational needs and attend Legacy Program’s events in Washington D.C., including the annual Legacy Forum and regular CTR Working Group events.
  • Attend events organized by other NGOs and think tanks in Washington DC representing Global Green USA.
  • Assist Legacy Program Associate and Program Director in planning and implementation of projects to promote the safe and environmentally sound destruction of weapons stockpiles globally.
  • Assist with foundation research and grant writing.
  • Help with other tasks and projects as needs arise.

Eligibility:

  • Must have a proven interest in international security policy, arms control, nonproliferation, and/or related environmental issues
  • Must be at least a college junior in good standing or a graduate student
  • Must have at least a 3.0 GPA (on a 4.0 scale), or equivalent grade average from a non-US institution

Deadline to submit application materials:

  • Applications are accepted on an ongoing basis

Time Commitment:

  • Spring Internship (full time (35 hours/week) or part time (20 hours/week))
  • Summer Internship (full time)
  • Fall Internship (full time or part time)

Work schedule, start date and length of internship are flexible.

Our office is located in the Johns Hopkins University’s Bernstein Office Building. 1717 Massachusetts Ave NW, Suite 600, Washington, DC 20036 (Dupont Circle metro stop)

Compensation:

Please note that internships are unpaid.

Francesca Solmi has joined the Legacy Program as a part-time Intern for the Fall 2007.

Francesca is a second-year graduate student at Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies pursuing a Masers degree in International Relations / Economics with a concentration in International Health Policy. She received a BA in International Relations from Sussex University (Brighton, UK), and interned with the Food and Agricultural Organization (FAO) of the United Nations.

Kay Spencer has joined the Legacy Program as a part-time intern for the Fall 2007

Kay is a senior at George Mason University pursuing a BA in Global Affairs with a Concentration in the Environment. She plans to use her experience at Global Green USA as a stepping stone towards graduate school and a career.
