Before & After: New Green School in East LA

We visited the official groundbreaking at KIPP Raices Academy in East Los Angeles last week, a school we worked on through a local initiative to green schools. For this green school project, we provided technical assistance to the development and design team in the areas of energy efficiency, water conservation, and creating a healthy and productive indoor environment. Together with the Local Initiatives Support Corporation (LISC), we also awarded the school a $75,000 grant to cover green upgrade costs. This was an adaptive reuse project, so the before and after factor is especially worth noting: What was previously a Big Lots store is now a green charter elementary school in the KIPP network.
