June 10, 2016 (West Hollywood, CA) – To celebrate LA Pride and Global Green’s unique and historic partnership to make the globally renowned annual event significantly more environmentally friendly, Lauren Meister, the Mayor of the City of West Hollywood, presented Chris Classen, LA Pride President and Dr. Les McCabe, President & CEO of Global Green, with a proclamation declaring June 10 to be “LA Pride Global Green Day.”

The presentation was made in West Hollywood Park located at 647 North San Vicente as the participants were surrounded by some of the city’s new bikeshare bicycles demonstrating new zero emission transportation options. Global Green has partnered with the City of West Hollywood for more than 15 years to help develop their green building policies and collaborate on numerous sustainable development initiatives.

“It makes a lot of sense for two of the most important and successful progressive movements to come together in the City of West Hollywood to help Green LA Pride,” said Dr. McCabe. “West Hollywood and Southern California have been the birthplaces of so many important environmental and human rights policies and practices over the last few decades – from establishing landmark equal rights for LGBT communities to landmark green building and urban design initiatives which have now become commonplace in cities and countries around the world. By putting progressive policies for our people and planet together through LA Pride, we can further accelerate the great challenges and barriers that still remain for the LGBT and environmental movements to be successful.”

This year, Global Green will evaluate ways to reduce the footprint of music festivals and parades with a goal of reducing the current waste stream by up to 50% and moving towards a zero waste event in the future. Global Green will host an interactive environmental education booth to engage LA Pride festival goers with tips and tools on ways to be more sustainable, not only during LA Pride but every day. Global Green will be conducting brief surveys to collect data on the transportation modes taken by participants to get to the festival so that we can plan for next year’s greening initiatives. At Global Green’s booth, festival-goers can take pictures and make their own sustainability pledges to post publicly on social media using the hashtag #GreenAndProud.
